Easiest photo shoot ever!

I've made some clothes, but I'm waiting for my hair, sunlight and three of Saturns moons to align with NASA's Cassini in order to take pictures of them.  Or maybe I'm just lazy.  No - it's the first thing.

I do have an almost finished object though - and this one was super easy to take photos of, because I don't have to be in them!

I started sewing a couple of years ago by being inspired to make quilty things by this lady, but I very quickly ran out of a need for quilted things, and switched to making clothing.  Last year I dipped my toe back in and made a quilt for my sister as a wedding gift, and in a highly predictable turn of circumstance, I just made another smaller one because she's pregnant!

I only have two pretty bad pictures of the quilt I made for the happy couple last year

but as you can see, I've managed to eek this smaller one out of the leftover's from the first.  They actually requested the color in the original quilt, but happily it's pretty neutral in the boy/girl spectrum, so it works quite well for a baby. I quilted the first one with straight lines, but did this one with free motion stippling.

The printed fabric was already in strips from the last quilt, so all there was to do was sew up a whole pile of straight lines.  I had a rough plan, but it was nice to sew without any pattern at all.

Probably because of the lack of any kind of planning, fitting etc, the whole thing only too a few hours.  The finished quilt is about 43" x 30".

I'm considering a simple solid for the binding, though I had a blanket with a ribbon binding when I was a kid and I took it to bed with me every single night until I was about 5.  Maybe I should do a ribbon / satin binding on this one too?

  1. My baby quilt had satin binding, too, and it was definitely the best part. Kids love texture!
